Engineered for the Long Run
Fiberglass is the material we point builders toward when the brief calls for a frame that will not warp, rot or corrode over the life of the building. It is a manufactured composite, not an organic material like wood and not a bare metal like aluminum or steel, so the three failure modes that eventually show up on those materials simply do not apply to it in the same way. That is not a sales line, it is the actual reason fiberglass keeps showing up on long-hold rental portfolios and exposed coastal builds where nobody wants to think about the frame again for decades.
Marvin and Andersen, two of the six brands we carry, both build fiberglass lines, so a fiberglass spec is not a compromise pick made because nothing better was in stock. On a Sorrento Valley showroom floor, fiberglass sits between wood's warmth and vinyl's price, holding its shape and its seal through the kind of daily sun and salt-air cycling that would ask real upkeep of a painted wood frame or a bare metal one.

Paint It Any Color, Later
Fiberglass can be painted any exterior color, and unlike a factory-finished metal frame or a fixed-color vinyl one, that color is not locked in at the time of order. A homeowner who repaints the house five years from now can repaint the window and door trim to match, in the field, without replacing a single unit or waiting on a new order from the manufacturer to get there.
That is a real difference at the design stage. It means a fiberglass spec does not force a color decision the rest of the house has to live with forever, which matters on a remodel where the exterior palette is still being worked out, or on a spec home where the eventual owner has not been chosen yet. It is the one material in our lineup built to be repainted, not just repaired.

Energy Performance and the Numbers That Matter on a California Job
Fiberglass is energy efficient, and that shows up in how the frame behaves across a California day: it resists the heat transfer that a solid metal frame conducts straight through, without asking for the periodic maintenance a wood frame needs to keep its seal intact. On an energy-conscious build, that combination of low conductivity and low upkeep is exactly what gets it specified.
We do not run the energy calculations for your plan ourselves, and we would rather say that plainly than claim an authority we do not have. What we do is supply units that perform well against whatever numbers your architect or energy consultant is working to, and talk through glazing and frame options with them directly when a spec needs to hit a specific target.
Where We Would Not Specify It
Fiberglass is not the material we would point you toward if the opening is the one place in the house meant to show real wood grain, an entry door or a street-facing window where warmth and texture are the whole point. That is wood or wood clad's category, not fiberglass's, and no amount of paint on a fiberglass frame will give a homeowner the grain and weight they are actually asking for in that spot.
It is also not the cheapest thing on our floor. If the driving question on an order is the lowest price per opening across a large window count, vinyl usually wins that conversation honestly, and we would rather tell a customer that at the counter than let fiberglass carry a price expectation it was never built to meet on a big schedule.
